Sharing Web Resources

I have subscribed to their website. The organization send out emails and give you an opportunity to help change a child life by donating. In the email they will give you information about what going on. For instance, they send out an email called  "sweet sounds of success" this was a group of 40 young scholars who were in a band and was able to go to New Jersey for a concert and they came in first place. They explain how the students learn music and build confidence and teamwork, and at the end they ask for people to support their gift.

The Harlem Children Zone has help many students and their families. This organization give students and their families hope! As I watched the clips of students and their families express how if it wasn't for Harlem Children Zone it brought joy to my heart. It is truly amazing what the organization is doing. Its the reason some are going to college, have confident and trying new things.

Expanding Horizons and Resources

This organization search and find groups of people that help children around the world. As they find groups they team up and form partnerships and invest their time and money to help change lives. Their goal is to help children grow.

This organization help and support children around the world. They provide children with a healthy start and teach them how to protect themselves. They believe that every child should have a bright future.

I chosen to do my research on Harlem Children’s Zone. I pick this organization because I never heard of this organization and I’m eager to learn something new. The Harlem Children’s Zone believes that the success of the children and the community goes hand in hand. They believe that in order to break the cycle of generational poverty we must work alongside of the community and give these children the opportunity to make their dreams come true.

My Supports

My Supports

Within my daily environment their are many factors that are very supportive to me. These things help me get through my day and also my life.

Family...A Group Experience of Love and Support.
- Marianne Williamson

My family my greatest support. They help me physical, emotionally and mentally. We have a family group chat. We chat each day. On the chat we motivate, encourage and just share how our day is going. If we are having a bad day we can just express our feeling on the chat. Every Sunday at 8:30 pm we have a conference call and we each come on for prayer. This relationship with my family means the world to me they provide me with love, guidance, and wisdom.

Imagining my life without my family: I would be complete lost. My family completes me.

Happiness is.....having a co-worker who becomes a friend.
-Unknown

My Co-Workers they help me socially, mentally and physically.  My co-workers are very supportive. There is never a dull moment in the classroom or the school. We have to help each other stay sane. They encourage me and makes sure we have a positive environment.

Imagining my life without my co-workers: I would be stressed out in the workplace.

The ones I do it all for....

My daughters are my biggest form of support. They encourage me the most. They always showing me love and keeping me on the move. Looking at them keep me motivate. My reason to keep moving forward.

Imagining my life without them: I would probably lonely. I wouldn't have a reason to keep pushing forward.

My Connections to Play

My Connections to Play

Barbies was on of my favorites toys as a child. I had over 50 barbies.I had cars, camper, kitchen, desk, food anything that you you can name I had it for my barbies.  Barbies allow me to be whoever I wanted to be. Barbies showed me that I could do anything if I put my mind into it.

When I was little I had a bike. I lived in the country, I had a big back and front yard. So as a child my cousins and I would ride our bikes all day long. Our imagination was wild! We would pretend our bikes were cars, trucks, and motorcycles. We would go on road trips around the house. We would race each other and pretend we were race car driver.

When I was a child I feel like play was a giving. We had technology but it wasn't  as popular as it is today. When I was little we stay outside all day till the street lights came on. Playing was like a part of our daily route. We play games like duck, duck goose; hide and go seek, freeze tag and our parents and teachers are the ones that introduce us to these games. This generation today has easy access to iPad, laptops, video games and they don't want to do anything but play video games. Also, now a lot of parents work long hours and aren't able to play with their children because the cost of living is so expensive.

Playing is very important in our children lives. Put down the cellphones, iPad, tablets and bring out the board games, make up games, go outside and enjoy LIFE!!

Relationship Reflection

Relationship Reflection

“Human relationships, and the effects of relationships on relationships are the building blocks of a healthy development” (Shonkoff & Phillips, 2000, p. 4).

“A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality” -John Lennon

Relationships are important to me because you will have someone that you can connect with. Someone you can trust, get advice from, give advice to, support, love and they are there for your best interest. Over the pass years I have form many relationships family, friends and coworkers.

Mrs. Basley – Teacher, Friend, Mentor

Mrs. Basley is the first teacher that I ever worked with and she is one of the reasons I took the next step to take this journey to get my Master’s in early childhood. She always has an open ear, she gives me advice she lifts me up when I’m down. She is a teacher, so she knows the things I’m going through in the classroom, so she can tell me her experiences and guide me in the right direction.

Akyia – Best Friend, Advisor

Everyone has that one person that they can tell everything to and know they will not judge you and they will tell you the truth and not just anything to keep you quiet. Akyia is my best friend, my go to person the one who keeps it REAL all the time. The person that keeps me in check and on top of my game.

Erica- Cousin, Friend, Mother, Sister, and more

Where can I begin with this one, she is my backbone. She is a little bit of everything to me. I honestly don’t know what I would do without her. She is first my cousin. My dad and her mother are siblings. She has been by my side literally since day one. We are like salt and pepper, fight like cats and dogs. One thing for such is she will always have my back and I got hers. We push each other to be great and to not settle for anything less.

Relationship are important NOBODY wants to have to take on this world alone!

When I think of Child Development

I love this quote because so many people are leaving an impact on children and don't even realize it. A person don't even have to speak to a child to leave an impact. Neighbors, mailman, teachers, cashiers and even strangers so its very important to always be aware of what you are doing because children are always watching.

Testing for Intelligence

Testing for Intelligence

I work at an early childhood development center. At the beginning of the year we give each child an assessment. This assessment is giving to see what the child already knows, and what we need to focus on. Giving these assessments give us a better understanding of the child. At the end of the year we retake the same assessment with the child. This is how we measure the growth, and see what the child learned.

In Finland, they take a totally opposite approach on their students then the United States. In the United States we focus on using test to hold educators and school district accountable (The Hechinger Report’s Lessons From Abroad blog., n.d.) In Finland they focus on the learning. In Finland they believe that they need less test based on accountability.

I personally enjoy the assessments in the sense of measuring the growth of children. These assessments help us better understand the children and we can find different ways to teach and help them learn.
