My Connections to Play
Barbies was on of my favorites toys as a child. I had over 50 barbies.I had cars, camper, kitchen, desk, food anything that you you can name I had it for my barbies. Barbies allow me to be whoever I wanted to be. Barbies showed me that I could do anything if I put my mind into it.
When I was little I had a bike. I lived in the country, I had a big back and front yard. So as a child my cousins and I would ride our bikes all day long. Our imagination was wild! We would pretend our bikes were cars, trucks, and motorcycles. We would go on road trips around the house. We would race each other and pretend we were race car driver.
When I was a child I feel like play was a giving. We had technology but it wasn't as popular as it is today. When I was little we stay outside all day till the street lights came on. Playing was like a part of our daily route. We play games like duck, duck goose; hide and go seek, freeze tag and our parents and teachers are the ones that introduce us to these games. This generation today has easy access to iPad, laptops, video games and they don't want to do anything but play video games. Also, now a lot of parents work long hours and aren't able to play with their children because the cost of living is so expensive.
Playing is very important in our children lives. Put down the cellphones, iPad, tablets and bring out the board games, make up games, go outside and enjoy LIFE!!

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your thoughts! I also spoke about the use of technology and how it's affecting the style of play. It saddens me to think children are not playing outside or exploring as much anymore. I agree that parents work long hours to compensate for higher expenses, which is unfortunate. They work to provide for their children, but in turn their children are not benefitting with regards to play and socialization. Parents can make up for this by leaving tablets and phones out of the picture when they spend time with their children.

ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a great childhood, it reminded me of mines. I too did a lot of fantasy play, just thinking back on it, it was crazy how our imagination works. Thanks for expressing how important it is to put down the technology and let children enjoy their childhood, we need to get them back active as we were growing up. Great post thanks for sharing.
